Data Analysis
Management, Analysis & Interpretation of Data
Data analysis transforms research findings into meaningful insights. These resources support researchers in selecting appropriate analytical approaches, interpreting results, and applying emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Honest Broker
The Honest Broker Program provides investigators with access to electronic health record (EHR) data for IRB-approved research and quality improvement projects. The Honest Broker serves as a neutral party between the investigator and the data, helping ensure that data are provided appropriately and in accordance with the approved protocol.
Depending on the project and approved use, investigators may request:
- Retrospective EHR data from discrete fields for analysis
- Prospective data on patients who meet specified inclusion criteria for clinical trial recruitment
- Patient counts by clinic or other approved categories, including geographic groupings such as ZIP code
The data provided may be identified, a limited data set, or de-identified, depending on the requirements of the approved protocol. If data will be transferred outside of Banner Health, a Data Use Agreement (DUA) may be required before the data can be released.

Statistical Analysis Guidance
SAMPL Guidelines
The Statistical Analyses and Methods in the Published Literature (SAMPL) guidelines provide recommendations for transparent and accurate statistical reporting in scientific publications. Researchers can use these guidelines to improve methodological rigor and reporting quality.
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)
NHANES is an ongoing study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that assesses the health and nutritional status of the U.S. population. It includes interviews, physical exams, laboratory tests, and other health measurements to offer nationally representative data on a broad range of health conditions and physiological traits.
Researchers can access data files for specific variables and survey components, as well as data from individual survey years and ongoing NHANES datasets. The NHANES website also offers documentation, FAQs, tutorials, and guidance for statistical analysis. Geocoded data are available separately but are subject to additional access restrictions.
